Rossland Lawns to Veggies Competition, 2010 We are proud to announce the two lucky winners: Denine Brownlee & Jorge Rivas. Rossland REAL Food built the veggie gardens on May 15&16, 2010 and helped the winners plant their gardens with fruit and veggie varieties that grow well in Rossland. Why Lawns to Veggies? The Rossland REAL Food recognizes that many people would like to have a vegetable garden, but they may lack the materials, knowledge, money & skills to get started. This project aims to help community members get started.Jorge wanted to keep the original soil that he had on the property as his yard had been gardened in the past. REAL Food Volunteers dug up the sod in the space where Jorge's yard got the most sun. Denine's yard had very poor topsoil so REAL Food Volunteers built raised beds and brought in topsoil Backgrounder and application Backgrounder: The Rossland Lawns to Veggies Competition seeks to support and encourage community members to grow food locally by having a competition where the Rossland REAL Food will help two lucky winners build and plant a vegetable garden in their yard.The Garden that you could win: The Rossland Food Group will build a vegetable garden to suit the lucky winner’s yard. The garden will be total of approximately 64sq feet in total (the equivalent of 2 raised beds 4ft x 8ft). This is not a landscaping service for an entire yard but incorporating a vegetable garden into the yard that already exists Requirements:
