Harvest Rescue

We get them!               Or they get them!

Do you have too much fruit on the your trees? Are you concerned about inviting bears in your neighbourhood?

Rossland REAL Food's Harvest Rescue Volunteer Team will help by picking your unwanted fruits and veges. We will haul away edible fruit for free or compost/depose of your rotten fruit/veges for a small fee.

We also need volunteers to help us remove fruit/veges so let us know if you can help!!

Where does the fruit go? Often the volunteer fruit pickers are providing their time in exchange for food. If the fruit is not edible, it goes to the landfill.

This is a partnership initiative with Bear Aware. Fruit trees are one of the top bear attractants in Rossland. Controlling fruit (in the trees and on the ground) helps keep the bears and our communities safe.

We are on facebook as Rossland Harvest Rescue and here is our Bhubble posting:http://www.bhubble.com/node/22549

Please contact David to volunteer or to have your fruit picked:

Community Fruit Pressing Day: Saturday, October 15, 2011, 9:30-4:30pm
  • Location: beside the community garden
  • Cost: $20 per press. All proceeds will go to Rossland REAL Food for repair and maintenance of the press and to provide an honorarium for the coordinators of the event.
  • Participants must book a time. Each press takes about 1/2 hour
  • Please book with David at 362-9557.
  • Each press takes about 2-3 boxes of apples. If you want your apples washed, please bring them pre-washed as there is limited water on site.
  • A full press will provide up to 30 Litres of water depending on the apple variety
  • Apples can go through the grinder and press 'as is'. Nothing needs to be removed
  • The press will only take apples
  • Rossland REAL Food does not provide the apples
What do I need:
  • Large cardboard boxes for the apple pulp
  • Large durable containers or large buckets (like a rubber maid) to catch the juice. Small containers will NOT work as the juice comes out of the press very fast
  • Working/outdoor clothing
  • Enthusiasm and energy!
